Clicker 4 Access Method 4:
Using a touchscreen

Using a Touchscreen

As far as Clicker is concerned a touchscreen works in exactly the same way as a mouse, rollerball, joystick or headpointer. Although you are pressing on the screen with your finger, the computer receives the same instructions that it would if you were positioning and clicking a regular mouse.

Using a touchscreen is a great for some users, especially as a way of introducing the very young to computers. However I have personal reservations about their long-term use. Although they do help with cause and effect (and for some may be the only attainable method of access) I personally feel that most pupils would benefit more from finding a suitable mouse, rollerball, joystick or headpointer.

Touchscreen users very frequently hit menus and icons accidentally, sometimes closing down programs altogether. To stop this from happening you'll need to find out how to trap the mouse pointer .
